John O’Brien is a senior financial executive with over 20 years of financial and operational experience in
technology and investment organizations. He has successfully implemented practices that increased
efficiency and profitability in both established companies and start-ups. His experience spans corporate
accounting, budgeting and forecasting, operations and financial analysis, debt and equity financing,
mergers and acquisitions, investor relations, facility management, HR and Legal oversight.
Currently John is President of his own management consulting company focused on providing CFO services to Early Stage and Emerging Growth companies. Working with companies pre-revenue to $50 million + covering all aspects of finance, accounting and operations.
Prior to being a management consultant, John was VP of Finance (CFO) for FirstBest Systems Inc., (acquired by Guidewire, GWRE) a SaaS company that made underwriting software for large commercial insurance carriers. At FirstBest, he built finance and administrative infrastructure raised multiple rounds of capital and scaled the organization to 150 people worldwide.
Prior to joining FirstBest, John served as controller at Cohesive Technologies, a manufacturer of equipment and consumables for Pharmaceutical, Diagnostic and Contract Research Companies. At Cohesive Technologies, he guided the company from a start-up to an established firm with annual sales of $15 million, which was then acquired by Thermo Fisher Scientific (TSF).
Previously at State Street Bank and Trust Company, he led an accounting team responsible for domestic and international mutual funds.
